Comedy scene of artists Nesanet and Gelila. Even though more women are completing formal music training programs, they are not performing on stage as much as men. There are some music schools in Europe where more men and women are getting equal opportunities to study music.

The Economist reported this. However, even though more women are joining classical music, they still find it tough to reach high positions like being conductors or playing solo in orchestras.

This trend isn't only happening in Europe. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation said that there are very few women in orchestras in Canada. In the 2014/15 season, there were more male soloists than female soloists in the biggest orchestras in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.

In Vancouver, 67 out of every 100 soloists were men. In Toronto, 74 out of 100 were men. In Ottawa, 79 out of 100 were men. In Montreal, 84 out of 100 were men. In Ethiopia, women who finish school are less likely to become musicians as a job or receive professional musician training.

More and more girls have been coming to the school as students over time. Actually, in some years there are more women than men. For example, in 2001/02, 17 women graduated while only 5 men did. Usually, you don't see many women playing instruments in public places, except for a small number of orchestras that use only strings.
