The African union unveiled the truth that The government of Ethiopia and the rebels of Tigray are in direct contact. The African Union announced in a press conference that the Ethiopian government and the Tigray rebels had "direct contact" for the first time regarding the relations between the two warring parties. The Agence France-Presse report, which recalled the intense conflict between the Ethiopian government and the insurgents, said that in recent weeks, both sides have been saying that negotiations could be held to help end the 21-month-long war.

 

However, when Ethiopia insists that any kind of negotiations should be led by the African Union; The rebels, on the other hand, want Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has been actively involved in peace efforts, to negotiate with the two sides.

 

In an emergency meeting held today, the Council of Gurage Zone, In Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s (SNNP) regional state rejected the government’s proposal to be organized in clusters to pave way for two more new regional states. The emergency meeting was attended by 92 of the 97 members of the Council and was held in the presence of SNNP President Ristu Yirda and other high-level officials of the regional state.
