  • EPP Establishment Takes All Required Legal Steps - Dr. Abiy Ahmed

     Dr Abiy Ahmed said the establishment of the Prosperity Party (PP) has taken all the required legal steps.



    Scholars had conducted a study and the establishment of the party has been discussed by leadership at all levels. The Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) and the Amhara Democratic Party (ADP) also unanimously approved the merger of the ruling coalition- EPRDF.

    The Southern Ethiopian Peoples’ Democratic Movement (SEPDM) is expected to approve the merger, the Primer said.

    Hence, “all these steps verify that the formation of the party have passed through all the necessary processes and legal steps,” the Prime Minister said.

    He said the plan which the newly merged party has developed with a target of creating a prosperous Ethiopia over the coming 10 years will be tabled to the public and members of the party for consultations and enrichment.

    The Prime Minister further said programs included in the party aim to foster genuine federalism, democracy, peace, equality, freedom, rule of law and economic growth of.

    The Prime Minister also called on opposition groups to come up with new ideas and alternative programs to become winner, instead of accusing the newly merged Prosperity Party.

    The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards committee has unveiled the winners for different categories in the just concluded polls for the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards 2018, with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed resoundingly emerging as the African of the Year 2018, with over 85% of total votes/submissions.  


    The keenly contested poll, across 7 different categories, attracted 123,446 votes on our website, 33,000 entries across our social media platforms, and 3400 submissions from both our emails and offline hard copy submissions. Winners shall be decorated and presented with the instruments of honour on the 22nd February 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa, at a colourful ceremony that shall attract a wide spectrum of African policy, diplomatic and business leaders.

    The winners were unveiled by the Publisher of the Magazine Mr. Ken Giami, at the UK Head Office of the group, after the awards committee working with the editorial team concluded the collation of both online and offline votes and submissions from the over 1 million subscribers / followership base of the publication.

    Ethiopia Restructures Its Military


    Addis Ababa, December 13, 2018 – Ethiopia has restructured its defense force.

    Accordingly, it has downsized the number of regional commands to four from six. The new regional commands are Eastern, Western, Southern, and Northern.

    It has also set up a committee tasked to reestablish a naval force and a special operation command.

    Based on these, the government has reshuffled military positions, according to Lieutenant General Mola Hailemariam, chief of special operation at the defense force.

  • Athlete Haile Gebrselassie Resigned As President of Ethiopian Athletics Federation


    Haile Gebrselassie has resigned as President of Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF).

    Haile served as President for the past two years.

    He had major competition wins at distances between 1500 metres and the marathon, moving from outdoor, indoor and cross country running to road running in the latter part of his career.

    He broke 61 Ethiopian national records ranging from 800 metres to the marathon, set 27 world records, and is widely regarded as the greatest distance runner in history.

  • Police accused Abdi Mohamed Omer, of attempting to escape from prison.



    Police accused former Chief Administrator of Somali regional state, Abdi Mohamed Omer, of attempting to escape from prison.

    Abdi was arrested following last August’s violence in the regional state.

    He tried to escape from prison through a window, police told the federal high court today.

    Due to health and safety concern, he had been kept in separate office, however, he tried to escape from the office by breaking the glass window and strangling a security guard, police said.

    Abdi denied the accusation.
