Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, today held talks with Tibor Nagy, Assistant Secretary for U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs, on the current situations in Sudan.
Tibor Nagy, who was in a visit to Khartoum for the past couple of days, briefed the Ethiopian Minister on the latest development in Sudan.
He said the United States is appreciative of the African Union’s (AU) and Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed’s efforts to mediate between the two rivals and bring peace in Sudan.
The United States fully supports the efforts of the special envoys assigned by both the African Union and Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, he said.
The United State also assigned its former Ambassador to Ethiopia, Donald Booth, as its Special envoy to Sudan, he said.
The Assistant Secretary also stressed the importance of integrated efforts to quell the current crisis in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu for his part said the problem in Sudan needs special attention as the stability of Sudan is key for the stability of the Horn region.
