The Afar National Democratic Party (ANDP) has begun its 7th regular session in Semera, the capital of the regional state, today.
In his opening remark, Haji Seyoum Awel, ANDP chair and Chief Administrator of the regional state, highlighted the success achieved in the political and socio-economic spheres and the challenges facing his party.
Absence of rule of law in the region, lack of democracy and power struggle within the party as well as organized robbery and corruption, are among the challenges encountered in the past, he said.
In a meeting it held recently, the party decided to cascade the reforms taking place at the national level to the regional level.
Representatives from EPRDF, ODP, ADP, TPLF, SEPDM, and other affiliate organizations attended the opening ceremony of the conference which will continue until Thursday.
The party is expected to retire its senior members to make space for new leadership.
